On July 2, 2019, the Government of the Federative Republic of Brazil submitted to WIPO its accession form to the Madrid Protocol on the International registration of trademarks, bringing the total number of member countries in the Convention on international trademarks to 105.

Brazil membership in the Madrid Protocol will become effective on October 2, 2019, at that date it will be possible to apply for the protection of a trademark in Brazil when filing an international trademark.
